Shopify pricing history: every change since 2019, with sources.

Billing

Dots mark a price change. Before 24 Jan 2023 yearly billing was a 10% discount paid upfront, so the yearly view starts in 2023. The same figures are in the table below and in prices.csv.

In brief

  • One plan price increase in this record: on 24 January 2023 Basic went from $29 to $39, Shopify from $79 to $105 and Advanced from $299 to $399 a month. Paying yearly kept the old prices.1
  • Card rates moved once: on 8 February 2024 online rates on the two larger plans rose 0.1 points (to 2.7% and 2.5% + 30¢), in-person payments gained a 10¢ fee, and the Advanced third-party fee went from 0.5% to 0.6%.2
  • Plus went from $2,000 to $2,300 a month on a three-year term, or $2,500 on one year, the same day.3
  • The entry plan changed three times: Lite at $9, Starter at $5 from June 2022, and a $0 Agentic plan from April 2026, when Starter left the pricing page.
  • Trials shrank: 14 days free, then 90 days during spring 2020, then 3 days plus $1 a month since October 2022.

The middle plan was called Shopify until April 2025, then Grow. Plus is the starting price on a three-year term; since February 2024 a one-year term costs $2,500, and large or complex businesses pay a variable fee based on revenue that Shopify does not publish. Plus prices before June 2020 could not be read from the archive.3

The pricing page added a full rate table. Standard rates did not change; premium cards (including domestic Amex) and international cards now have their own published rates.

Agentic plan at $0 added, Starter dropped

A $0 plan for selling through AI shopping channels without an online store appeared, and Starter left the pricing page. Shopify says Starter is not available to new stores.

Transaction fees

Currency conversion fee now taken on the full order

The 1.5% US fee for converting a customer payment into your currency is now calculated on the gross order amount instead of the amount after card fees.

Trial and offers

New stores earn up to $10,000 in credits

New merchants get 1% of their Shopify Payments sales back as Shopify credit for the first six months (0.5% with other providers), up to a cap per plan.

The Shopify Payments rate for online card payments rose 0.1 points on the two larger plans. Basic stayed at 2.9%.

Plus moved to term contracts with a higher starting price, and a higher price for a shorter term.

What did not change

  • The Basic online card rate, 2.9% + 30¢, for the whole period.
  • The fee for using another payment provider on Basic (2%) and Shopify / Grow (1%).
  • The chargeback fee, $15 in the US, returned when the merchant wins the dispute.4
  • The US currency conversion fee, 1.5%, from at least September 2020. Only how it is calculated changed in April 2026.5
  • POS Pro at $89 per location per month since it launched in May 2020.
  • The yearly-billing prices of $29, $79 and $299, which have been the same since 2019: before 2023 as the monthly price, since then as the yearly one.

What we could not confirm

A price history is only useful if it says where it is unsure. These points are left out of the tables or marked in the text:

  • When existing stores moved to the February 2024 card rates. The pricing page changed on 8 February 2024, but Shopify published no announcement, and articles that give a date mix it up with the 2023 increase.
  • The Plus variable fee. Agencies report 0.25% of sales before 2024 and 0.35% (three-year) or 0.40% (one-year) since. Shopify's pages give no percentage, so none is used here.
  • Plus before June 2020 and the 2024 rule that let Plus merchants keep 2023 pricing on a new three-year contract, which comes from a single agency.
  • Exact launch dates of Starter (June 2022), the Retail plan (August 2023), the Grow name and the Agentic plan, beyond the day they first show on the pricing page.
  • Amex and international rates before December 2021 and between late 2022 and May 2026, when the US page did not list them.

How this was built

  • Shopify's pricing page changes with the visitor's country, so today's page cannot show US history. We read the Internet Archive's copies of shopify.com/pricing: one per month from January 2019, then day by day around each change, until the change sat between two captures one or two days apart. Plus prices come from the archived shopify.com/plus/pricing page the same way.
  • The archive sometimes saved the Canadian or European version of the page, or a test version. Every capture cited here was checked to be the US page in US dollars.
  • Where Shopify announced a change or documents it in its Help Center, that source is cited too, and its date is used when it is more precise.
  • Changes reported only by agencies or the press are marked as reported, or listed under What we could not confirm.
  • We check the pricing page every week. When it changes, this page, the files and the feed are updated together.

Frequently asked questions

When did Shopify raise its prices?

Shopify raised its monthly plan prices on 24 January 2023: Basic from $29 to $39, Shopify (now Grow) from $79 to $105 and Advanced from $299 to $399. Existing merchants paid the new prices from 23 April 2023. Yearly billing kept the old prices of $29, $79 and $299 per month. On 8 February 2024 the online card rates on the two larger plans rose by 0.1 points and Shopify Plus went from $2,000 to $2,300 a month.

What did Shopify cost before 2023?

From at least 2019 until January 2023, Basic cost $29, Shopify $79 and Advanced $299 a month in the US, with 10% off for paying a year ahead. Lite cost $9 until June 2022, when Starter replaced it at $5. Plus started at $2,000 a month.

Is $29 a month still the price of Shopify Basic?

Only when billed yearly. Since 24 January 2023 Basic costs $39 a month billed monthly, or $29 a month when you pay for the year upfront. The same applies to Grow ($105 or $79) and Advanced ($399 or $299).

When was the Shopify plan renamed Grow?

The pricing page shows the middle plan as Grow from 9 April 2025. Its price and rates did not change.

Why do some articles show different Shopify prices?

Shopify sets prices per country and shows the pricing page for the country you visit from, so a writer outside the US may see local prices such as $27 or $19. Many articles also still list pre-2023 monthly prices or the 2.6% and 2.4% card rates that changed in February 2024.
