In brief
- A WooCommerce to Shopify migration has a one-off cost, the move itself, and a recurring effect, the difference in monthly running cost between the two platforms. Both should be in the budget.
- Shopify's US prices are $39, $105 and $399 per month for Basic, Grow and Advanced billed monthly, or $29, $79 and $299 billed yearly; Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 per month on a three-year term. Prices differ by country.12
- Online card rates with Shopify Payments in the US are 2.9%, 2.7% and 2.5% plus 30¢ on Basic, Grow and Advanced for standard cards. Using a third-party payment provider instead adds 2%, 1% or 0.6% per transaction, and 0.2% on Plus.1
- WooCommerce itself is free; WooCommerce estimates hosting at $25 to $350 per month for most stores and paid extensions at $29 to $299 per year each.3 Metorik's data on more than 6,000 stores puts the average store at 58 plugins.4
- Mufatech Studio's done-for-you migration is a fixed price from $890 (up to 1,000 products), $1,490 (up to 5,000) or $2,990 (up to 15,000), reviewed in a private preview before payment.
Three ways to migrate, and what each really includes
| Do it yourself | Automated migration tool | Done-for-you service | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you pay | Nothing, except your time | A fee that scales with the number of products, customers and orders | A fixed project price |
| Products, customers, orders | CSV export and import, by hand | Yes | Yes |
| Products above Shopify's 3-option limit | You restructure them | Often skipped or truncated | Restructured case by case |
| 301 redirect map | You build it | Sometimes, as a paid add-on | Included |
| SEO titles and descriptions | Separate export | Sometimes, as a paid add-on | Included |
| Reviews, subscriptions, translations | Each a separate project | Varies | Scoped up front |
| Theme and storefront set up | You | You | Included |
| Verification | You | Record counts | Count-by-count report and a preview store |
| Best for | Small catalogs, simple products, technical owner | Clean data, no SEO history to protect | Stores that depend on organic traffic or have complex products |
The pattern to notice: tools price the data transfer, which is the cheap part. The expensive failures after a migration are lost rankings from missing redirects, variant data that did not fit and subscribers who were never moved, and those are the rows where the cheaper routes say "you".

What Shopify costs to run
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly | Online card rate | Third-party provider fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39 | $29 | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2% |
| Grow | $105 | $79 | 2.7% + 30¢ | 1% |

| Plus | from $2,300 | 2.25% + 30¢ | 0.2% | |
US prices and Shopify Payments standard online card rates, as shown on Shopify's US pricing page on 18 Sep 2026.1 Premium cards are charged 3.5%, 3.3% and 3.1% plus 30¢ on Basic, Grow and Advanced. Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 per month on a three-year term, or $2,500 on a one-year term.2 Shopify shows lower or different plan prices in some countries, so check the pricing page from where you are. vendor-published
Three lines complete the Shopify bill:
- Apps. Reviews, subscriptions, email, search and loyalty are apps with monthly fees. A typical migrated store ends up with far fewer apps than it had plugins, but they are billed monthly rather than yearly.
- Theme. Free themes exist; paid themes are a one-time purchase per store.
- The third-party fee. If Shopify Payments is not available in your country or you keep your own gateway, Shopify charges 2%, 1% or 0.6% of each sale on top of your gateway's fee.1 For stores outside Shopify Payments countries this is often the largest single line, and it is the main reason some stores should stay on WooCommerce.
What WooCommerce costs to run
WooCommerce's own pricing page describes the core plugin as free with no monthly subscription, and then lists what a store pays around it: hosting at $25 to $350 per month for most stores, scaling with traffic, and extensions at $29 to $299 per year each. Card payments through WooPayments run at roughly 2.5 to 2.9% plus 30¢, and WooCommerce charges no additional fee for using other payment providers.3 vendor-published
What that page cannot price is the work. Metorik's analysis of more than 6,000 stores found an average of 58 plugins per WooCommerce store.4 Every one of them ships updates that have to be applied, tested against the others and occasionally rolled back. Whether that is two hours of the owner's evening or a monthly retainer with a developer, it is a real cost and usually the one that tips the comparison.
| Cost line | WooCommerce | Shopify |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Free | Plan fee |
| Hosting, CDN, backups | You pay and manage | Included |
| SSL, security, PCI scope | You pay and manage | Included |
| Extensions or apps | Mostly yearly licences | Mostly monthly fees |
| Updates and compatibility testing | Your time or a developer | Handled by Shopify |
| Payment processing | Gateway fee only | Shopify Payments rate, or gateway fee plus Shopify's third-party fee |
Monthly cost calculator
Replace the defaults with your own numbers. The calculator adds up a month on each platform and shows how long the monthly difference takes to pay back a migration fee. Nothing you type leaves this page.

Costs people forget
- Lost organic traffic. The most expensive line, and it appears on no invoice. It comes from missing or homepage-only redirects; see the redirects guide.
- Products that do not fit. Shopify allows three options per product. Catalogs with four or more variation attributes need restructuring, which is manual work; see the variations guide.
- Subscribers. Recurring revenue is lost if saved payment methods are not moved; see the subscriptions guide.
- Running both platforms. Hosting and licences continue until cutover, and the Shopify plan starts when the store leaves the partner's development environment. Budget one to two months of overlap.
- Custom functionality. A custom plugin or heavily modified theme does not migrate. It is either replaced by an app, rebuilt, or dropped.
- Email and integrations. Accounting, ERP, shipping and email flows have to be reconnected and their automations rebuilt.
- Your own time. Reviewing the preview store, approving redirects and checking test orders takes a few focused hours even in a done-for-you project.
How to keep the cost down
- Delete before you migrate. Discontinued products, spam customer accounts and ten-year-old draft posts all count towards tool pricing and project scope.
- Decide the order history cut-off. Many stores migrate two or three years of orders and archive the rest as an export.
- Audit plugins against real use. Most stores use a fraction of their 58 plugins' features. List what customers and staff actually touch, and replace only that.
- Keep slugs unchanged. Renaming products during a migration doubles the redirect work.
- Pay yearly once you are settled. Shopify's yearly billing is about 25% cheaper than monthly on Basic, Grow and Advanced: $29 instead of $39 on Basic.1
- Scan first. Knowing the product count, the products above the option limit and the plugin list before asking for quotes makes every quote comparable.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify?
Doing it yourself costs only time. Automated tools charge by the number of products, customers and orders, usually with redirects and SEO data as extras. A done-for-you migration is a project price: Mufatech Studio charges from $890 for up to 1,000 products, $1,490 for up to 5,000 and $2,990 for up to 15,000, including redirects, SEO fields and store setup.
Is Shopify more expensive than WooCommerce per month?
It depends on three things: what you pay for hosting and extensions today, how many hours go into maintaining WordPress, and whether you can use Shopify Payments. Stores with managed hosting, many paid extensions or a developer retainer usually pay less on Shopify. Stores that must use a third-party payment provider pay an extra 0.6% to 2% of sales to Shopify, which can make it more expensive.
What are Shopify's plan prices in 2026?
US list prices are $39, $105 and $399 per month for Basic, Grow and Advanced billed monthly, or $29, $79 and $299 per month billed yearly. Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 per month. Shopify shows different prices in different countries.
Does Shopify charge transaction fees?
Not when you use Shopify Payments, where you pay only the card rate. With a third-party payment provider Shopify adds 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced, on top of that provider's own fee.
What is the biggest hidden cost of a migration?
Lost search traffic from missing redirects. Every WooCommerce URL changes on Shopify, and pages without a one-to-one 301 redirect lose their rankings. It never appears on an invoice, which is why it is routinely left out of cheap migrations.
When is it cheaper to stay on WooCommerce?
When hosting is inexpensive and stable, the store uses few paid extensions, someone in the team is comfortable maintaining WordPress, and Shopify Payments is not available in your country so the third-party fee would apply to every sale.
